MODERN OPTICAL
FRAME COLLECTION LOGO

CASE STUDY

Redesigned logo brings a clean, modern look to a popular product line.

Modern Optical International is a family-owned business founded in 1974 and headquartered in suburban Chicago. It’s an industry leader in value eyewear, offering products for men, women and children worldwide.

The Challenge

Modern Optical has logos for each of its frame collections. The logos help differentiate the collections and make them more memorable

We designed the original version of the Modern Art logo, and while it held up for many years, the time came for a refresh. Modern Optical wanted the logo to have an updated, more modern look and asked us to design it.

Strategy Execution

When creating or updating logos, our typical approach is to develop several variations. Depending on what the customer is looking for, the variations might only have subtle differences, or they might have some significant differences.

In this case, the initial request was to showcase the letters “MA” as an icon with the words “Modern Art” either to the right or below. There was no specific color request. The customer just wanted the design to look clean and modern.

After several rounds of proofing and adjusting the designs, the project direction shifted. Modern Optical decided not to use the “MA” icon and opted for stylized text that read “Modern Art Eyewear.” They developed a rendering for us to use as inspiration and asked us to replicate it, finding a similar font style and color.

The Results

This job was a perfect example of the evolution that can take place as a logo gets developed. In the end, the logo Modern Optical decided on was significantly different than what they initially asked for.

The important thing was that the customer was happy with the final result. We provided them with all of the logo files, along with documentation of the fonts and CMYK, RGB, Hex, and Pantone color values to be included in their brand standards. The new logo will start being utilized in Modern Optical’s marketing materials soon.
